These birds were time consuming, but I love the way they turned out. Cardinals were from an artists rendering – and as I loved the style, I found photos of the other birds and tried to apply the same concept. Gouache brushes worked well – tried watercolor, but the layering takes too much time for the intensity I was after. Leaves were manually drawn, and used textured brushes inside them.
